Signs that you should replace your tires
Checking if your car tires still work is one of your most important responsibilities as a driver. Not only will this determine the safety of your journey around San Antonio, but the lives of others depend on you as well (if other people ride with you). Therefore, it must already be common knowledge that car tires don’t last as long as your car does, and a regular checking of it is necessary to make sure that it’s still in good condition. Every time you check the amount of air pressure of your car (or have it inflated every once in a while), you should consider these following things as well.
1. One word: tread. If you’ve never encountered the word before, it simply means the numerous grooves you see on the sides of your car. They should be about 1.6 mm deep, and constant contact with rough surfaces like dirt or gravel roads can eventually make the grooves shallower. The tread of your is important because it prevents you from skidding down slippery roads by a simple technology that it allows water to flow through the grooves of your tires. Worn out tires become smoother over time, making it more difficult for your wheels to “stick” on the road. If you think that the tread of your car has become too smooth, consider replacing it.
2. Check the sidewalls of your tires as well. The grooves of your car might still be deep enough, but cuts or cracks can also cause your tires to burst. If you’ve noticed recently that the sidewalls of your tires have too many markings on them, ask a mechanic if it’s better to have them replaced.
3. Check your tires for any sharp objects that might have been stuck for long periods of time. Nails, broken glass, and other sharp objects that litter the road can pierce through your tires pretty easily. In this case, have them replaced right away.
4. Lastly, if one of your tires has burst, there’s really no other choice but to replace them right away.
