Necessary Car Checks You Should Make Before Going On That Summer Vacation

We and our network of independently owned and licensed affiliates know that you’re all excited for that much-coveted summer vacation you rightfully deserve, but before you get in your car and go, read up on these car safety check tips first!

Going On Summer Vacation? Prepare your car

  • Make sure all your tires’ pressure are still good, and if not, have them pumped
Check all your four tires for any wear and tear visible, and make sure they have the appropriate air pressure. You can have this checked at a gas station. For the right gauge for your vehicle, check the drivers’ manual.
  • Check to see if all your door locks, windows, and trunk are functioning and can be opened
It might be easy to neglect little things like these, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. If there’s a chance of rain, make sure your windows can be rolled all the way up and all the way down, and if you’re driving a convertible, check to see if you can still put the top up. Lastly, check to see if your car trunk isn’t getting stuck once you close it, because you’ll be storing a lot of stuff in there.
  • Make sure that the windshield and rear wipers are working
Wherever you’re going, it’s always better to be 100% prepared for rain (even if the forecast says sunny skies all week). If your wipers are getting stuck or are making a scraping noise, have them replaced to avoid scratches on your windshield.
  • Go to the gas station and have your hood popped for safety checks
Make sure there’s still enough water and that oil doesn’t need changing before going on a long drive. If necessary, have these maintenance checks days before you go out so you don’t go overheating while you’re already on the road.
  • And lastly, make sure there’s enough gas in the tank
This is the most important reminder you must bear in mind! Although it’s likely you’ll be passing a lot of gas stations and rest stops on freeways and highways, it’s ideal to have your gas filled so there won’t be unnecessary interruptions while you’re driving.
